Supporting you to facilitate real change

Transforming our health system comes in many forms. An exciting and emerging part of our role at Health Issues Centre is coaching people working in the health sector to implement a specific innovation they’ve identified in their workplace.

This is a bespoke 12-month program generally developed in collaboration with your employer to ensure the program adds the most value to your role.

The two most common coaching scenarios we offer are for:

  1. Staff in charge of consumer engagement in a health service. This program includes hands-on support to develop an action plan and tools to manage specific challenges in the workplace. It may also include training for internal staff – including senior managers – and consumer representatives.
  1. Consumers engaged in paid roles as “consumer consultants” – most often within Mental Health and Alcohol and other Drug services. The program includes a review of processes and structures needed to support you in being an effective consumer consultant across a large health service.

The support we have received from Tere and the Health Issues Centre has been incredibly useful in assisting us to review and reorientate our current practices in relation to how we encourage genuine and meaningful engagement of our consumers. Being new to the Community Engagement role, I found the individual support particularly useful in clarifying the requirements of Standard 2, and innovative methods to meet and exceed the Standard.

The support provided by the Health Issues Centre (HIC) has assisted South West Healthcare (SWH) in its efforts to embed NSQHS Standard 2 Partnering with Consumers into practice.
